The events of last week have left an indelible mark in history. Even tough we are half a world away, we all feel the pain and suffering of all those families who lost their love ones and are forever scarred by this senseless act of violence. On behalf of our club I extend to the families in New York, Washington and other areas affected our deepest sympathy. It is our fervent hope the American government finds and punishes the perpetrators, those harboring them and the bankers financing them. Speaking of peace and order, last week's guest was the newly installed Philippines National Police Provincial Director for La Union Wilmer S. Panabang. He gave us an initial insight on the peace and order situation of the province since he was only installed this first week of September. A lively fining session was done by PP Paquito Dy, who brought us back to yester years and remembering the past achievements of our club and its members…I hope to see you more often in our club meetings PP Paquito! Rtn Bill did a good response even though he's been here only for a short time. I also want to extend my relieve and jubilations for PP Ives, who's son is back with him safe and sound.

Last week we paid a visit to Naguilian District Hospital, one of the participants of our Medical Equipment and Repair Training project under 3H Grant, where we saw for ourselves the medical equipments that were repaired by their biomedical engineer. It truly is uplifting when they thanked us for having this project. It was truly worth it and has saved the hospital a lot of money in term of replacing condemned medical equipment. We also delivered the 19 mattresses donated by the club and with us was the Provincial Governor Victor Ortega in the turnover ceremony. We have also visited the RVC of Calabugao and as additional support, we will be installing 5 new pump wells for the other far-flung residents. Also discussed during the meeting is the distribution of 14 piglets for fattening to RVC members. Dispersal is set on September 25, 2001. A visit to RVC of North SPED School also took place last Thursday. The creation of a Mini Forest was proposed and will be scheduled this month. The RVC will be having a general membership meeting to discuss what livelihood project to implement for this Rotary Year.
