Our meeting started at 12:35pm, the room was again near capacity with only the center table left with a couple of seats unoccupied...I wondered what's with that center table why nobody wanted to occupy it. The program proceeded with Tim welcoming our visitors and birthday celebrators. Speaking of birthdays, last November 12 was the birthday of our Vice President Rex, but instead of celebrating it with ice cream and coffee on the house, he committed $100.00 to the Rotary Foundation! Thank you VP Rex!
PP Arsing again did a long but entertaining Friendship session. Our speaker, the newly installed Regional Director of TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority…tsk tsk…just in case you didn't know), Director Antonio del Rosario gave us an overview of what TESDA is, and its role in the informal education sector or technical/vocational course as we call it. Here, we have seen that technical skills are what our country needs, our society has always looked down on this vocational course as a career path. Most would rather choose a white-collar job, which is not in demand right now. This came in to my mind that on our succeeding Career Guidance Seminars, we should also promote and give our students an idea about Technical or Vocational Courses. Taking these courses require less time and money, and that means our students can join

the work force earlier, making us more efficient.
Last week, our club formally started the Community Based Disaster Training for Bangar and Sto. Tomas, with me were PP Albert, Dir Jun, Miss Baobaoen of International Aid and VP Rex who had to stay behind (overnight at the island Barangay of Mindoro) to conduct his part in the said training. So far everything went as scheduled. We should be able to finish the training for these two municipalities by December 2001. This will be followed by Agoo and Luna on January 2002.
This November 19, 2001 we will inaugurate the opening of the Hospital Equipment Repair Training at University of Perpetual Help at Binan, Laguna. And joining me in Binan, Laguna are Dir Jun, Dir Alan, Rtn Bill, and members of the Rotary Club of Manila.
I would again like to remind the general membership of the upcoming Rotary Foundation Seminar at Fontana Convention Center, Clark Air Base, Pampanga on Saturday, November 24, 2001. Registration fee is Php 400.00. The day before, November 23, is also the opening of the first leg of the Governor's Cup. Our club is invited to join the golf fellowship, tournament fee is Php 500.00/participant inclusive of food and giveaways, green fee is Php 1000.00. Tee off time is 6:30 am - 10am.
