We've been working prior to induction ...

It warmed my heart to have seen so many familiar faces during our 42nd Joint Induction Ceremonies. Over 270 guests from other Rotary Clubs (and Lions, too) have graced that very special occasion. The evening, according to spectators was unique, and very geared up. For me, aside from those, it was solemn and blessed.
While I still consider our club very blessed because of the rains that poured immediately after our 42nd induction ceremonies, many people were not as fortunate when the rains turned into a full-blown typhoon, Feria, the next day. The fangs of the storm whipped the Northern Luzon provinces including La Union, where many towns and barangays were submerged in massive floods. There was also an angry "baby" twister that hit portions of Catbangen and Sevilla. Many families have been relocated as they have been displaced from their houses that were either lost or dilapidated, or destroyed by the burly winds and rains.
I thought we only prepared for the induction, but our well preparedness for service was tested anew, and we showed commendably. During the storm, we were able to pool some dump trucks from our members to help in the

evacuation and delivery of relief goods. Breads were distributed to temporarily relieve our unfortunate brethrens from hunger. Our partners, the Inner Wheel Club also donated food and old clothing. To the Rotarians who left the security of their homes just to offer help in anyways to our needy fellowmen, my sincerest thanks and God reward you for that. You truly exude the Rotary ideals in heart and mind. I truly believe that help is not asked for, but best offered. To a couple of Rotarians from far-flung clubs who were stranded and had to stay for an overnight, our heartfelt gratitude for coming and our apologies for the inconvenience brought about by the calamity.
For today we will be tackling the most important issues of our club: the Missions and Visions for Rotary Year 2001-2002. As each of our Directors of the Four Avenues of Service present our plans, I encourage all members especially the chairmen for each committees to give their full support and participation. We also need your brilliant suggestions and ideas on how we can further improve our club and our services to mankind, because always remember, "Mankind is our Business"!
