Last week we had a very good attendance, the room was full of excited and eager Rotarians. It made me wonder whether because after a very long weekend, everyone was eager to attend the meeting. Or is it because of the induction of our two newest Rotarians, Rtn Anson and Rtn Ed, making our membership at 69, the highest so far in our club’s history. Or was it because of Miss Rochelle Gualberto, the most recent winner in the Miss La Union beauty pageant held last March 2002. I guess it was the latter that motivated our members to attend and even stay up to the last minute of the meeting. As part of our yearly tradition of inviting the beauties of La Union or San Fernando City as a special guest of honor and speaker during our weekly luncheon meeting. They truly are an inspiring and refreshing sight.

A week ago on this same day, we formally opened the Comprehensive Disaster Management Training for the 5 barangays of Rosario, La Union namely Udiao, Bani, Camp One, Poblacion East and Damortis. For this Municipality, we will focus more on vehicular accidents as this is a transit point to Baguio, Dagupan, La Union and most of the barangays are located on the highway. The project is set to end on April 16, 2002, in time for their presentation and graduation during the town fiesta of Rosario.

Also last Friday, we implemented the anti-rabies vaccination at the municipality of Sudipen, this was in coordination with their Municipal Veterinary. We provided 60 vials of anti rabies vaccine good for around 600 dogs. We hope to cover the majority of the barangays of Sudipen and I want to thank VP Rex for accompanying me around the barangays.

I want to remind the general membership of the upcoming District Conference this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Baguio Country Club. This is hosted by the Rotary Club of Baguio North, the club of our District Governor Mark Go. I would again like to encourage as many members to join as they have prepared a lot of good speakers like Francis Kong and Maximo Soliven of PhilStar. Aside from the speakers, entertainments by the PorkChop band and renowned Side A Band will be performing too. This will surely be a very festive District Conference.

Also come April 16, 2002, the first GSE team from Dallas, Texas will be arriving. They will be staying upto April 19, 2002. Then afterwards on April 22, 2002, the second GSE Team from Victoria, Australia will be arriving for a five day stay upto April 26, 2002. As previously announce, this will be a joint hosting by all Rotary Clubs in La Union.
