Greetings to our Guest of Honor and Speaker, the Honorable Eufranio Eriguel, mayor of Agoo. Mayor Eriguel is currently the President of the League of Municipalities of the Phil., La Union Chapter. The town of Agoo, known for the religiosity of its people, is now also known for the cleanliness of its surroundings. Agoo has garnered the title of Cleanest and Greenest Municipality of Region I, and is a finalist for the same title nationwide. So Cleanliness really follows Godliness! Last week, we had the ribbon-cutting of our Trade and Job Fair, at the town plaza. Those who graced the occasion were the members of our Inner Wheel Club and Rotarians Rex Mendoza, Frank Buenaventura, Romy de Castro, Ben Ang and Arnold Ignacio. The proceeds of the Fair will go to the SPED school, which we adopted, particularly for the purchase of educational materials the handicapped students could use. Last week, we also had a training seminar, partly sponsored by our club, for teachers who would be dealing with 'Special Children'. The trainors were from Kampi ( not the political party of our Vice-President ) and the seminar was held at the Red Cross building, courtesy of Director Rex Mendoza. Thanks to those who accompanied me to the Candidates Forum, in Baguio's Hotel Supreme last Saturday. These were ADG Rey Bonifacio, Directors Rex Mendoza and Jun Tio, PDG Ces Mendoza and Rotarian Edwin Canonizado. Upcoming District Affair, also to be held in Baguio, is the Rotary Foundation Seminar. This will be on November 18 and will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Baguio South. Pre-registration deadline with a discounted rate of P 450 is this coming October 31. I wish to remind our Board of Directors, and our Secretary and Treasurer, that we will be having our 4th regular board meeting tonight at the Mandarin Hotel with Director Rex Mendoza as our host. Among other things we will be discussing the arrival of the delegates of our Sister Club-to-be, the Rotary Club of Ansan, Korea, and our coming Club Anniversary, this coming November 22, with Noli de Castro as our Guest Speaker ( or rather Guest Interviewee ). Lastly, I want to thank PDG Ces Mendoza for his persistence. Money from two Matching Grants, the one for the potable water supply for the whole of La Union and the one for the Special Children, will be ours probably before the end of this Rotary Year.
