PREXY'S NOOK
PRES. JEROME GAERLAN

GUEST SPEAKER
DR. HERMINIGILDA D.  SALANGAD
Psychiatrist, RECOM I

Let me start my column by greeting our guest of honor and speaker for today, Dr. Gilda Dumaguin-Salangad. It is nice to know that a certified Psychiatrist is connected with the Regional Command in our area. We the taxpayers are the ones paying for the guns of the Police and so we want them all to be fit, not just physically but mentally, as well. Thank you, Dr. Salangad for accepting our invitation.

I would also like to greet our other special guests for today, the delegates from the Rotary Club of Ansan Sang Rok Soo. They are accompanied by the members of their Sister Club- to be, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union North, led of course by their energetic President, Pablo Ortega. By the way, I would like to greet Pablo and his co-members an advance Happy Anniversary.

My thanks to those who accompanied me to the Medicinal Herbal Garden Contest at the North Central School in Barangay Tanqui. They are PP Vir Cabading, PE Richard Dy, Asst. Sec. Frank Buenaventura, Sgt.-at-Arms Arnel Chanpinco and Rotarian Romy Chan. Our Club co-sponsored the event with our Inner Wheel Club counterpart. The objective of the undertaking is to make people aware of the medicinal properties of herbs that we can grow in our own backyard.
Tomorrow morning we will be having the opening of our Job and Trade Fair in the Town Plaza to commemorate October, which is Vocational Month for Rotary. Ribbon-cutting will be at 9:00 A.M.

Our Rotaract and Interact Clubs will be participating in the said affair, selling refreshments and snacks, for their own fund-raising. We shall also be providing a free booth for our Inner Wheel Club counterparts who will be selling some items for their own fund-raising. Many thanks to Director Rex Mendoza who is spearheading the project, ably assisted by PE Richard Dy.

By the way, I received word from the Trustees of the Rotary RVC Foundation of the Philippines, that they were impressed by the presentation of Director Rex at Balanga, Bataan, again ably assisted by PE Richard Dy. They are asking me to send our RVC Success Story Presentation to them for publication. Additional cash prizes are at stake for those RVC projects that are adjudged winners on the National level.
I wish to remind Director Jerry Parlan of the upcoming District affair this coming Saturday, to be held at the Hotel Supreme in Baguio. This is the Candidate's Forum. Running for District Governor for Rotary Year 2002-2003 are PP Edmyr " Macky " Macabulos of RC Western Pampanga and PP Rigoberto " Bert " Pascual of RC Dolores. Our Board still has to meet to decide whom to support, always taking into consideration the wise counsel of our Club Elders. But of course, the Club officers and members must first attend the said affair to get to know the contenders better.
