I would like to extend our Club's warmest greetings to our Guest of Honor and Speaker for today, former SEC Chairman and Chief Executive officer, Perfecto Yasay Jr. I guess, most of you know his story, specifically the part where he became "former" SEC Chairman. I know that Rotary is a non-political organization that has to remain partisan. So our role is simply to provide a forum where individuals with "inside information"- to use a stockmarket phrase- can share with us what he knows. Furthermore, although Rotary is non-political , we as individuals have to make a stand on issues which affect us, and our stand is based on the completeness of the information that we get. Lastly, although Rotary is non-partisan, we have a 4-way test act as our guide. We value truth over "white-wash", fairness over unequal application of laws, genuine friendship over a relationship based solely on self-interest and true service over generosity which is all for show. My thanks to those who were there with me at the Joint Vitamin A- Dengue Seminar at the South Central School last Oct. 27, namely P.E. Richard, Director Rex and Rotarian Allan Sy. Our Inner Wheel counterparts were also there, providing the "merienda". We has 200 elementary school teachers in attendance. Thanks also to those who were with me at the Balik-Calabugao Medical Mission last October 29. These were, P.E. Richard, Directors Rex, Jerry and Jun, IPP Albert, Sgt.-at-arms Arnel, past-Director Raymund Espinosa and Medical Missions Chair Edward Gaerlan. VP Tante Licudine was not there because of his work schedule but it was he who arranged for the Lorma Medical Technology Staff and students who also comprise the LORMA Rotaract Club, to do free urinalysis and blood typing during the Medical Mission. Thanks also to Rotarian Rick Marquez for the big discount on drugs purchased and for the free medicines. Last November 3, we had a meeting at the Mandarin Restaurant to discuss the loose ends of our preparation for our Club's Millenium Anniversary Celebration on Nov. 22. The entire board of our Club was present including Secretary Diego, Asst. Sec. Frank and Rotarians Raymund and Allan Sy. We are working to have November 19-25 declared Rotary week by the province of L.U. and the city of San Fernando, to commemorate the birth of Rotary in our area. This is an idea of PP Andy Astom. We are finalizing plans for the week-long celebration and we are hoping to involve other clubs in our area, which are all "daughter" clubs of the "Mother" club. Yesterday, we had a seminar on AIDS for Barangay Health Workers at the Dyquianco Building. Director Rex gave a very complete and entertaining talk on this serious disease to the more than 50 BHW's present. P.E Richard and myself were also in attendance. Finally, this morning we held a Career Guidance Seminar at the La Union National High School coupled with some book donations for the school library. P.E. Richard and Rotarian Reggie Chan were in charge of the affair. I can't give a list of the Rotarians who attended and who spoke because of the cut-off for the printing of our Gold Leaf. Anyway, thank you very much for supporting our Club's endeavors. Belated Happy Halloween to everyone!
