Greetings to the Guest of Honor and Speaker for today, Charlie del Rosario, Legal Officer of the National Telecommunication Commission, Region I. Charlie is our second Guest Speaker for this Rotary Year who is connected with the NTC and he is one of the many Speakers we already had from the Legal Sector. This is not to say that our present choice of Guest Speaker is a redundancy. Better communication is one of the primary concerns of human beings and our present world is the way it is because of advances in the field of communication. The NTC has a big say in regulating the use of these technological advances and of course you can't beat someone with a background in Law when it comes to explaining the rationale behind any set of regulations. So for those of you who wish to communicate better for personal or business purposes, which would of course include all of us, now is the time to listen and learn.
Let me thank PP Aldy Dy for the generous contributions he has given to our Club. First it was a pledge to sponsor a merienda for the kids and teachers of the SPED School. Last week during his Wedding Anniversary, he pledged 10,000 PhP for the setting up of the Rotary Service Center. Our Club, and the whole world needs more of his kind-businessmen with the heart.
Many thanks also to the many participants in our successful Vitamin A Supplementation program. Four schools were covered with 1,500 kids given their Vitamin A doses, which should adequately cover them for the next 6 months. Much earlier, we conducted a seminar for all the public elementary schools here in San Fernando City to educate teachers, who would then educate their pupils, on how to get a sufficient amount of Vitamin A from inexpensive foods. Relevant posters were also distributed during the seminar. Note that Vitamin A deficiency is one of the more common causes of preventable childhood blindness.
Congratulations to the Incoming President Richard Dy and his Secretary, PP Ferdinand Fernandez, who are now preparing for Rotary Year 2001-2002, by attending the PSETS held last Friday, March 23, at the Baguio Country Club. During the PSETS, there was a video presentation of International Rotary President for RY 2000-2001, Richard D. King giving an inspiring message to all present. This was preceded by a rousing speech by Incoming District Governor Mark Go. I'm sure Richard and Ferdinand are now all ready to take charge when my term ends in July. I pledge them my whole-hearted support.
