I guess by now, most of you have heard about the good news about our
winning 12 awards during the Year-end Review in Tarlac. Among these awards is
the much coveted "Most Outstanding Club" for District 3790. So for
two straight years, we have been chosen "Number One" out of the
more than 80 Rotary Clubs of the District, which spans from Ilocos Norte to
Bataan. It makes you proud to be a member of the Rotary Club of SFU, Inc.! For a while there, I thought that we would not make it. In the Mid-year
Review, we were number one in Vocational Service for the entire District.
Then when the final awards were being given in Tarlac, we were only number 10
! We also failed to bag first place in
the other Avenues of Service, despite our standing in the Mid-year Review. It
seems that some clubs did not submit their full report for the
"Mid-year" as part of their strategy. It is a good thing that we
did not relax during the second half of the Rotary Year, although it was very
tempting to do so. So we still came out first over-all. Congratulations, to our Daughter Clubs, notably the Rotary Club of San
Fernando City, North. The club led by our new energetic Board Member
of L.U., Pablo Ortega, won several
awards, coming out first in Vocational Service! We are sincerely proud
of their success, just as I knew they were sincere when they told me that
they were glad that the number one over-all Club is from La Union. So today, we will be honoring those who contributed much to the Club's
success, by giving out awards. I must say that the number of awards to be
given does not include the whole membership of our Club. This is not to say
that if you were not given an award,
your contribution to our present "success" has been
forgotten. It is just that awards, in order to be meaningful and fair, have
to be limited to those who really gave
heavily of their time and resources for the Club and the Community this
Rotary Year. At any rate, my many Thanks and
Congratulations to everyone! |
