PREXY'S NOOK
PRES. JEROME GAERLAN

4 AVENUES OF SERVICE

Warmest greetings, my colleagues in the Rotary Club of  SFU, Inc. !
During our Induction last  week and the days before that, I had the opportunity to 'test drive' the vehicle known as the Rotary Club of SFU, Inc. The vehicle had just gone through a gruelling  'Grand Prix'  and had emerged victorious.  Being a tyro, I was uncertain about the controls and I was not even sure that I could bring the vehicle to the starting line. So, I fumbled with the gears and switches as I left the garage into the stormy weather. Finally the machine came alive and began to ' purr '.  BROOOOOMMMM….What a ride !
My wholehearted thanks to all who joined hands to make our Induction a memorable one despite the ' no-show ' of our guest speaker  and her substitute. Of course, we understand because there was a typhoon and they are after all at the helm of the DSWD, which is partly tasked to take care of calamity victims. Still we are grateful for the personalized message of our  Vice-President, read by the DSWD District Director, Cristeta Absolor.
My special thanks to the following :
PP Ben Ang who ' marshalled ' the proceedings to finish almost ' on-the-dot ', despite the inclusion of  unpredictable kids (including grown-up ones ).
PDG Ces Mendoza who took care of protocol- which makes our club different from the rest.
Allan Alvarez, the master of ceremonies, who braved the many tongue-twisters, and Arnold Ignacio, who just as bravely tackled the impossible task of introducing the guests, making it one of the highlights of the evening.
IPP Albert Dy who quietly worked behind the lines to make sure everything was in order.
President-Elect Richard Dy, for flying in from Palawan like Superman,  saving us ' computer-illiterates '  from embarassment.
VP Tante Licudine and Ann Arlene, Lorma College of Medical Technology Dean, for providing efficient receptionists for the  affair.
PP Bob Kaiser for the Lorma buses ferrying the kids from the ' Sped ' school  to Oasis and back.
PP Ferdinand Fernandez for all the help and for waving the ' copyright ' for his ' songbook ', allowing us to give our guests something they would keep and use.
ADG Rey Bonifacio who allowed us use of his  DLP ( whatever that means ) which has made LCD technology obsolete.
To all the officers and committee chairmen- Jerry "bright boy" Parlan,  Jun " Inner-Wheel first gentleman " Tio,  Reggie " the innocent Rotarian " Chan,  Rex " Mr. Rosa Rosal " Mendoza,  Allan  " the Caterer " Sy, Frederick " the Engineer " So, Ernie " the Reliable "  Galera,  Frank  " the Documenter " Buenaventura and many others.
Who else did I miss ?  Ooops ! How could I forget my own ' pinsan ', Edward " the Magician " Gaerlan. I always thought that I was a creative person. After seeing Edward work on the North Central  and  ' SPED ' school kids  and come up with a simple but elegant storyline for the  Power-Point presentation, I realized what "real creativity" is. If Edward ever decides to give up Medical Practice, he could give Steven Spielberg a run for his money.
So that is it. If ever I missed anybody, blame it on  too much " Diet Coke " intake, which uncomfirmed reports suggest may cause " Alzheimer's " disease.
So it was a good show.  However, let me remind everyone that we are still just in the starting line. Leaders are supposed to motivate their followers.  Often times, the reverse occurs, and
