With the changing of the old guard as we enter the new, it is with great honor that I serve RCSFLU as the Editor in Chief of the Gold Leaf and the Rotary Web Site - both great mediums by which we can convey information to our members and the world. We will strive to make each edition throughout the RY2000-2001 interesting, insightful and relevant to the progress of our club. The evolution of our website is also receiving increased attention as members overseas are utilizing the Internet to stay in touch with our mother club. So for now, read about the recent induction ceremonies where we witnessed the dawning of a new year and remember and honor the accomplishments of the past. Hopefully, through the examples set by our past presidents, our new president can achieve more to pave the way for subsequent, honorable achievements. Thank you, and mabuhay! --
Joke of the Week!
A man is having a few drinks at a bar when he looks over and notices a drunk guy passed out at a table nearby. The bartender tells him the drunk is Mr. Murphy and asks the man if he could drive Mr. Murphy home. Being a good Samaritan, the man agrees. The bartender writes down the address and gives it to him.
The man walks over and tries to wake Mr. Murphy but Mr. Murphy is groggy and quite drunk. The man helps Mr. Murphy to his feet and Mr. Murphy falls to the floor in a heap.
"Jeez," the man says wondering how anyone could drink so much. He takes Murphy by the arm and practically drags him out to the car. Once there he leans him against the side of his car while he looks for his keys. Mr. Murphy slides down to the ground. The man finds his keys and manages to get Murphy positioned in the car.
He then drives to the address the bartender gave him. He opens the passenger door and helps Mr. Murphy out and the guy falls to the ground. Cursing softly, now, the man helps him to his feet and practically drags him to the front door. He lets go of Mr. Murphy to knock on the door and the guy falls down again. He helps him to his feet as Mrs. Murphy answers the door.
"Hi, Mrs. Murphy, Your husband had a little too much to drink tonight so I gave him a ride home."
"That was nice of you," she says, looking around... "But where's his wheelchair?" (woo-hoo! that's MEAN! :)

The 41st annual induction program of the Rotary Club of San Fernando (LU), Inc. and the Inner Wheel Club of San Fernando LU was a spectacular affair. From the sounding of the starting bell by an Outgoing President to the closing moments when a new President's ways sharing his dreams nearly three hours later, it was destined to be memorable occasion Needless to say, Editor ALLAN A. established himself as a MASTER of Ceremonies and an excellent orator as he guided us through the evening's program. As one of my seatmates put it, "It was as if God Himself was speaking when Editor ALLAN A. was speaking through the PA system." There were so many "highlights" on this special evening. My heart was especially touched by the presentation of the Invocation and Pambansang Awit by the Hearing-Impaired Children of SPED School and the North Central School Drum and Lyre group, respectively. They did such a wonderful job as did all the participants of the program. IPVP ARNOLD had the tedious task of greeting the dignitaries and guests who were gracing this special occasion with their presence. I could not quite figure out why Dir. EDWARD was introducing Vice-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she was not even present. Oh well, I guess that is the proper way of doing things. DSWD Region 1 Director, Cristeta Absolor did a wonderful job "filling in" in reading the VP's prepared speech. After Dir. REX gave the appropriate response Pres. JEROME and Pres. TESSIE presented the speaker with special gifts. I do not know if they were for VP Arroyo or Director Absolor….. IWC District Chairman Geronima Sison inducted the new set of officers for the IWCSFU. And what a lovely group of ladies they are, especially the Director of Community Service (Paula.) Pres. TESSIE'S inaugural address was short and sweet, District Governor BENNY UY was the inducting officer of the new set of officers of the RCSFU. Before IPP ALBERT presented the new President and his family, PDG CES had a special preparation to make. To show his love and appreciation to RCSFU and the world of Rotary, IPP ALBERT and his lovely Ann, NANCY have become Paul Harris Fellows. This is the second time for IPP ALBERT. Thank you IPP ALBERT and NANCY for expressing your love and support for Rotary in this wonderful way. IPP ALBERT did an outstanding job introducing and presenting the new President and his family. You would expect no less from the "Mega President". Pres. JEROME opened his heart to us and shared of his own personal thoughts, fears, joys and dreams during his inaugural address. Yes, it is true, Pres. JEROME does have some very big shoes to fill.. But if anyone can do it Pres. JEROME can do it. After all, he has the best Rotary Club with the best Rotarians in the District backing him and supporting him. And…." With God nothing is impossible."
