PREXY'S NOOK
PRES. JEROME GAERLAN

GUEST OF HONOR & SPEAKER
BRENDA MUNOZ-ESPINOSA, MD, FPCS, FPCC

One of the differences between Rotary and other socio-civic organizations is that Rotary has a very strong international component. This was very well demonstrated last week when we forged a sisterhood agreement with the Rotary Club of An San, Korea. I guess one of the main goals of Rotary is to foster good relationships among people of all nations and races. Rotary International seeks to achieve this goal by promoting close contact among people who normally would not cross each other's path due to barriers imposed by distance, geography, culture and language. The majority of wars fought between countries is really caused by distrust and misunderstanding due to these barriers. If only these barriers were overcome, people would come to realize that all people are basically alike- we are not really that different from one another deep inside. With that revelation, it becomes more difficult to hate and fear people of other races and much easier to cooperate and work with them.

Greetings to the Guest of Honor and Speaker for today, my personal physician, Dr. Brenda Espinosa. February is 'Heart Month' and so it is just but proper that we set aside one meeting day for a 'Cardiologist' to address us. Since Brenda is also past-president of the Inner-Wheel Club of San Fernando La Union, today is Ladies' Day. Some Rotarians will have to pay double today, for their own meals and that of their Anns.
Everyone, however, can avail of something free today, courtesy of arrangements made by our Guest of Honor, Brenda. These are free blood pressure 'readings', serum cholesterol determinations and EKG examinations. This shall be conducted in the room adjacent to ours. Privacy and Doctor-Patient Confidentiality shall of course be guaranteed.
