PREXY'S NOOK
PRES. JEROME GAERLAN

Before anything else, left me welcome our Guest of Honor and Speaker, Director Amadeo Yabes, Regional head of NTC. No doubt, he will touch on matters that the 'New Generations' ( which is incidentally  the Rotary theme for the incoming month of September ), shall find important.  These 'New Generations' include the members of 'Generation X' and  'Generation TXT'. Of course, the members of the 'Ex-Generation' ( composed of retirees and near-retirees ) shall also find points that would concern them, notwithstanding the fact that poor eyesight precludes 'texting'. After all, communication is a universal human need.
Last week, our District Governor made his official visit to our club. Everything went fine except I guess, at the start. I was informed by everyone that he would be arriving at OASIS at 9:30 A.M., so I arrived at 9:00 A.M.  To my horror, the Governor was already there with District Secretary Benjie Adefuin. It was a good thing our  Club Secretary, Diego Ledda, was there to meet our guests. Thanks Diego!
Our one-on-one with the Governor was from my point of view, very fruitful. Our Governor is young but he has wisdom beyond his years. I expected him to give a prepared lecture but to my surprise he allowed me to do most of the talking. He is obviously a 'listening' Governor and not one enamoured with  his own voice.  He merely gave comments which were all of practical importance and also very 'doable'.
I want to thank Directors Richard,  Tante, Jerry, Rex and Jun for their 'high-tech' presentation of our plans and accomplishments. The Governor was obviously pleased. The 'cramming' at 'Basic Internet' did not show at all.  Thanks also to ADG Rey Bonifacio for the use of his DLP,  which has made the LCD passe.
Congratulations to Director Jun Tio, who became a 'Paul Harris' Fellow during our club meeting with the Governor himself doing the pinning. After that, Jun , as International Director, will again have to work hard to help me dispose of the 70 tickets for the 'Paul Harris' raffle, which Governor Bennie gave me.
Governor Bennie Uy also instructed me to award the 'Pearl' and 'Ruby' Plaques of Recognition to our senior members who are still with our club. I will be doing this task today during my President's time.
Thanks to IPP Albert Dy and active Rotarians Allan Sy and Romy Chan for representing the club during the 'signing' of the 'MOA' between the Club and the DECS,  represented by no less than Secretary of Education Andrew himself. This MOA concerns our Club's Official Adoption of the SPED and North Central Schools. The event was simultaneous with the Governor's visit which explains our absence.
Wecome back to PP Rufi Macagba who had with him Rotarian Diether Howald, who was performing a function for Rotary International, with regards our 3-H Grant Project. This project involves the setting up of a school for Biomedical Technologists ( and perhaps later, Engineers) to fill a nationwide need for qualified personnel who can fix malfunctioning medical equipment. Diether was impressed with our Club's commitment to the project and he said that he had little doubt that the project would soon push through.
