Advance Happy Easter to everyone in the Rotary Club of San Fernando City!
This past weekend, my family and I attended a fundraiser held by The Rotary Club of Houston Heights. Being one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in the Houston area, I was told that they knew how to "do things right." Suffice it to say that their fundraiser was a success. There was something for everyone and you didn't need to be a Rotarian to enjoy.
Firstly, there was a petting zoo for kids upon entering the event hall. For a fee, children can enter a playpen where gentle animals roamed (i.e. Llamas, sheep and baby donkey, to name those I can name…). There were also pony rides and face painting from a clown at US$1 dollar each.
Inside the hall, the Rotarian hosts were busy at the reception desk led by ADG Clint Horne who welcomed us and showed us where the food was served (shrimp or crawfish dinners US$15/person). There were soft drink and pie sales for additional fundraising from the Rotary Anns as well as T-shirt sales. The main part of the day's festivities was a fundraising auction with an entertaining auctioneer. All items auctioned were donated by sponsors, which ranged from dinner for 20, an out-of-town fishing trip for four and a signed Michael Jordan jersey. A one-year supply of ice cream sold for $850 (original grocery value is $250).
Lastly, there was a raffle where a US$100.00 ticket will make you eligible to win a grand prize of US$10,000.00. With 500 tickets sold, the club was able to raise US$50,000 just from the raffle.
According to the President of Cy-Fair Rotary, the entire event must have brought in over US$100,000.00 to benefit the Rotary Club and Rotary projects through out the world.

As soon as the beautiful ladies have arrived, Pres. JEROME rang the bell to officially begin the meeting at 12:30 P.M. Seated between two beauties, Pres. JEROME cannot hide his delight!
VP TANTE offered the prayer and led in the 4-Way Test, followed by the Pambansang Awit led by PP KIT. After sometime - while Rotarians were looking admiringly at the beauties before them, PP CANOR did the Welcome and Greetings.
PP BOB introduced Billy Teninty, who was inducted as the new Rotarian in this Club. His Classification is "International Relations." As a Director in the implementation of the Medical Equipment Training at Lorma College. He is back up by his extensive degree of training experience in the high tech medical equipment repair. He is a very welcome member of our Club. PP VIR, who gave the Charge, both scared and inspired BILLY by his words of inspiration and warnings. Pres. JEROME finalized the ritual by inducting him, with Ann EDNA at his side. Then the usual "welcome greetings" by Rotarians followed.
PD RAY performed the Friendship Session with gusto, dealing on beauties, then and now, especially those who hail from La Union, including a Miss Universe in the 70's and the Miss World candidate presently.
Pres. JEROME's time was nearly omitted by PD TIM, amidst increasing intensity of excitement. But when he was called, the President was brief and to the point.
Rtn. ALAN had the pleasure of introducing the two beauties who made it to the meeting - Miss Barangay 2001 - Suzanne de Castro and Miss San Fernando City 2001 - Sheryll Anne Ducusin, who spoke briefly one after the other. In the Open Forum that followed, both characterized the women of yesteryears as modest, passive and home-bound, as compared to women of today who are aggressive, career oriented and liberal. Men? They are all the same, one of them said.
A/Sec. FRANK articulated the sentiments of the Rotarians in his appropriate Response. Sec. DIEGO and Pres. JEROME presented gifts in exchange for the coveted kiss.
The Pres. Hesitated to end the meeting but even good meetings had to end and it did at exactly 2:00 P.M. PD TIM did a good job at Emceeing the memorable meeting.
