Council on Legislation to convene in Chicago

The 2001 Council on Legislation, Rotary's triennial "parliament," will convene in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 22-27 April.

Under the leadership of Chairman Clifford L Dochterman of Moraga, California, USA, past RI president, representatives of clubs in all 530 Rotary districts. will act on resolutions and a record number of proposed enactments to amend the constitutional documents of RI.

The first Council of the 21st century will deliberate and decide on such important subjects as attendance requirements, the classification system, membership requirements, and other issues. Dochterman describes the Council as "Rotary's agent for change" as the organization strives to meet the challenges of the new century.

Notice of enactments and resolutions adopted by the Council will be mailed to all clubs within two months of the Council's adjournments, and will also be posted on the RI Web site. Upon review, clubs may express opposition to adopted legislation by the deadline stated in the Report of Action. That deadline must be at least two months after the mailing of the report.

A new Manual of Procedure incorporating all approved proposals will be published in December 2001
