Today is another special day for our club, for with us is our District Chairman for Youth Service PP Edmyr "Macky" Macabulos. A warm welcome to you PP Macky Macabulos! Incidentally, we are celebrating this month as Youth Activities Month and although we are only celebrating it for this month, I am pleased to inform you that we have already several accomplishments before we even commence the month of September. To enumerate, they are as follows:
Helped in strengthening the Rotaract of UCC by not only inducting them but also their active participation in our community projects & helped in the organization of the Interact Club of DMMMSU. Attended the Launching of the Stimulation Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC) for Special Children and pledge to support whatever project they have in the near future. Co-sponsored the On the Spot Drawing /Poster Making Contest held last August 17,1999. Launched the Vitamin A Supplementation to the Grade I pupils of the different schools in San Fernando La Union last August 18,1999. Conducted a Book Fair & U.S. Surplus Bargain Sale in cooperation with the San Fernando Christian Community of which, the volunteers were the youth of the said community and the Rotaract of UCC and of course our own Rotarians. Helped the Rotaract of UCC to help raise funds for their community projects. Installation of Pylon signs against the hazards of smoking & Against Illegal Recruitment. Co-sponsored a Health Fair Exhibit featuring informations and materials that would encourage the youth to quit smoking or taking drugs.
Since our focused for this month is on the youth, let us not forget that we ourselves still belong to this sector of our society and as a proof, we are ranking No. 4 in our inter-civic bowling tournament and garnered a score of 10 points. We should have garnered more if we did not fail to wear our uniforms. I guess, we could blame it to our excitement from the praises that we have received from the Governor during his visit. Kidding aside, to properly identify us during our tourney, we should wear our uniforms. As mentioned, we had a successful reporting to the Governor and as an added praise from the Governor, the only thing that another club must do or must have done is to sponsor another club to be able to surpass our achievements. We should not therefore, wait for the others but let us be vigilant and always on the look-out for clubs that needs to be revitalized or areas where we could organize one. I hope that this will further initiate us to perform better for I believe that this sound very challenging and inspiring.
And since membership is one area of concern for this Rotary Year, I am pleased to inform you that we are next to RC Baguio for having the highest number of members. Hopefully, we could recruit at least three more to be able to surmount them. Incidentally, we belong to the top 5 clubs having attained a 100% attendance but as compared to the others, whose member ranges from 14 to 33, I can say with pride that ours with 57 members is par excellence.
It should not however, serve as stumbling block for us to continuously uphold our goal to achieve a much higher membership in knowing that we are already on the top five but should further enhance or encourage us to continue recruiting members. Remember that our Club is currently on the process of adjustment in accepting Lady Rotarians but on the contrary, this might be accelerated in due time if we will not be able to increase our membership. So………….
Likewise, I would like to remind the general membership that for an individual Rotarian to be recognized in the District as Rotarian 2000, one of the criteria is for the member to be able to recruit at least 2 new members.
