ur meeting last November 9,1999 was very exciting, at the same time heartwarming. Exciting in a way that we were all expectant to be winners of the much coveted Paul Harris Fellow. Heartwarming in a sense that, many have shelled out so much from their pockets to contribute to our Club's goal to raise two (2) Paul Harris Fellows even in knowing that only two would win for the raffle. Congratulations ADDG Vir and Chairman Ernie for winning and to all of you who contributed/ pledged... A MILLION THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!
Raising two Paul Harris Fellows was indeed our contribution to the Rotary Foundation in attaining its vision to serve as a special tool for international service through its wide range of educational, cultural and humanitarian programs. On the other hand, Rotarians use these programs in working together across international borders to build a better and more peaceful world.
The Foundation's Humanitarian Programs are; Matching Grants, Health, Hunger and Humanity Grants, Grants for Rotary Volunteers, Carl P. Miller Discovery Grants, Peace Programs, Polio Plus. These programs provide health care, food, supplies, community development, literacy training, vocational training and volunteer service to thousands of individuals throughout the developing world.
The Foundation's Educational and Cultural Exchange programs are; Ambassadorial Scholarships, Grants for University Teachers to serve in Developing countries, Group Study Exchange. These programs on the other hand, provide opportunities to thousands of individuals to learn about life and work in other countries, which further provide greater understanding among people with different backgrounds.
Incidentally, our club will soon host the upcoming Rotary Foundation Seminar this coming November 20. It is highly encouraged that the general membership attends the said seminar not because we are the host club but for each of us to know and understand better about the Rotary Foundation.
