rely two months from now, Rotary Year 1999-2000 will come to a close.  It is during this time that most clubs have slowed down in terms of activities and projects, funds have dwindled at its lowest, as the deadline for year-end report is fast approaching (May 15), the foregoing factors, however, do not signal us that we, Rotarians, should also go along that line.

If we slow down, all that we worked hard for including our monetary contribution will be for nought.  I am afraid that this is not us who will suffer the most but the community we vowed to serve and dedicate our efforts to.  This is not for self - glorification or recognition, but simply a reflection of our selfless interest in the service of humanity.  This commitment and endeavor should be monitored and sustained, if not heightened throughout the year and the years to come, to have a deeper impact not only to the communities concern but to our club as well.  In doing so, delivering responsibilities and attaining a smooth transition to the future administrations.  Then, we can proudly say we acted with consistency, credibility and continuity.

Much have to be commended to our team this year especially the four avenues of service Directors and respective Chairpersons who have taken full responsibilities, not only did they commit and  attain our club's goals and objectives for this year, but they even have surpassed the club's expectations. It is through their continued contributions of their resources, efforts, vigor and enthusiasm that makes me feel proud to be a part of RC SFU, Inc.

Incidentally, words of condolences goes to the family of the late Judge Juan Aquino.  Judge Aquino is the father-in-law of our PP Fernando Astom.

A CHILD'S VIEW OF ROTARY

e RC of Longview, Texas, RI D-5380, honors the local school districts of Pine Tree Intermediate School and Spring Hill with a teacher-of-the-month award.  In November, 1999, the honor went to Judy Geddie, who also was the Pine Tree ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.  In her comments to the club, Mrs. Geddie shared that her fourth graduate language arts students were involved daily in learning new vocabulary words.  She asked the students to define the word 'ROTARIAN' and received the following responses:

A Rotarian is:

* a person who helps with rodeos
* someone that makes comedies
* a cowboy
* someone who goes to Rotary
* a person who goes to western clubs
* a person from the city council
* a person that works by serving food
* a person that grades the teachers
* a person that listens to a teacher talk about stuff
*  someone who helps the city by picking up the trash and helps people  out-of--town
*  someone who meets and talks about people who are going to be in the  next show
*  a person who is in a club or sings a song in front of people
*  a person who said something
*  a person that is like a person in a community
