Ambassador of Australia to the Philippines


Mr. John Buckley was born in Perth, and has a BA (Hons) from the University of Adelaide.

Mr. Buckley is a senior career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He joined the then Department of Foreign Affairs in 1973. His appointments in Australian missions have been in Jakarta as Third Secretary (1973-75), Bangkok as First Secretary (1979-82) and Minister at the GATT Mission in Geneva (1992-95). From 1985-89 Mr. Buckley was with the Department of Finance.

Before coming to Manila in March 1999, Mr. Buckley was the First Assistant Secretary, Passports, Services and Security Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra.

Mr. Buckley is married with two children.
