PDG Mariano " Mar " Un Ocampo III, Editor of the Philippine Rotary Magazine was our Guest of Honor and Speaker during our last Tuesday ( July 20, 1999 ) regular luncheon meeting .  In his speech , he tried to convince our club that we can now accept Lady Rotarians citing that, it is now acceptable according to the revised By - Laws and Constitution of Rotary International.  Incidentally, PDG Mar Un Ocampo III was the District Governor when the Rotary Club of Aparri was Chartered and I was the Charter Secretary of the said club during RY 1981-1982.

Last Monday evening, July 19 ,1999 , the Board of the Rotary Club of San Fernando ( LU ), Inc. has its 1st Regular Board Meeting at the Hotel Mikka and we had lengthy discussions on the various proposed plans and objectives as presented by the Directors of the Four Avenues of Service which includes the revision of some budgets for our proposed projects. Some other matters were also discussed and approved by the Board. I can therefore assure our fellow Rotarians that our Directors of the four - Avenues of Services were all prepared with their respective presentations and hence, the forthcoming visit of the District Governor on September 14, 1999 will not be a problem during the Club Assembly on said date.  We will all be
IN GOOD HANDS as far as reporting of our club's plans and objectives to the district Governor is concerned.

Moreover, our first three club meetings for the month of July 1999 was indeed significant and very encouraging .  Let us therefore keep it up and hope that our club will maintain or even surpass all other Rotary Clubs in the district as far as Club Attendance is concerned for the RY 1999 - 2000.  With the recent initiative of Pres. Albert Dy by providing the club with the Karaoke Sound System of Hotel Mikka's Gatherings Bar and Restaurant during fellowship / lunch time will enable us to discover more singing talents for the club .
To Pres. Albert . . . Keep up the Good Work ! ! !

There was a festive atmosphere  in  the meeting  room. The video karaoke was going on Rotarians were testing  out  their  singing  skills.  Rotarians and guests started pouring into the Room. The amazing  thing  about all  of  these  is  that the meeting  had  not  even officially been called  to  order.  At  around 12:25,  Day  Chairman  and  MC  PP  ANDY have all the important people at the Presidential Table seated.  At  12:30  the  Day Chairman  notified   our Club President that  all things had  been  prepared.  Pres. ALBERT then officially  called  the  day's  meeting to  order.

Once again, BABY ROTARIANS were used in the day's program.  BABY RTN. ALAN led us in the Pambansang  Awit.  RTN. TANTE 'filled in" with a very good   Prayer.  I  could  tell that  he  has  been Practicing,  as we  all should .  The short  luncheon  time  was  filled   with music  from  the Video Karaoke.  We were pleasantly surprised at  how  good  some  of  the Rotarians could  sing.

The Welcome and  Greetings  was done by  BABY RTN. JUN.   The lone celebrant for the day was absent.  I guess he was still celebrating his wedding anniversary with his wife. There were many guests present.  Several came  from Tarlac with our  Guest  of  Honor  and  Speaker.  BABY RTN. JERRY was the Fine Master.  I must say  that  he did  a very  good  job as  he  gave  clues about  the  lives  of  our Club  Officers and  we  had  to guess  who  they  were.  PRES. ALBERT announced  that  RCSFU was  adapting three needy  barangays  for this Rotary Year.  There is also going   to be a drive to collect used  books  for the barangays  to help boost  the  literary  program of the Club.  BABY RTN. FREDERICK  led us all in a good  old  Rotary  Song.  By  this  time we  were  all  warmed up to singing.

It was PP CANOR who had   the  privilege of introducing our Guest of  Honor and  Speaker. PDG MARIANO  'MAR' UN OCAMPO III.  PDG MAR is the  Editor-in-Chief  of the Philippine Rotary Magazine.  PDG MAR was  asked  to speak on  the  subject of  'Literacy in Rotary".  It was stated  that the subscription of Philippine Rotary has reached up to 8,000 and the goal is to have  10,000 subscribers by  the year 2000.  PDG MAR also stated that if we are going to be truly literate Rotarians we ;need to keep all  the rules  of Rotary, and  not; just  the ones  we  like.

As always, it was  good  meeting.  PRES. ALBERT adjourned the meeting at 2:00 P.M.
