REFLECTION

The object of ROTARY, in general, is to ENCOURAGE and FOSTER the IDEAL OF
SERVICE
as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, (which are four objects as
cascaded but, I would just be focusing on the first one to shed light on the sole purpose of this scripture)  to encourage and foster;
development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

The message is simple and straight.  It suggests us ROTARIANS to make each  interaction with an associate or a friend worthwhile, by developing them. In so doing…… itself is an
opportunity for service.  WELL GREAT!

First, is to encourage, then to foster a certain course of action, for an individual to become useful and equally productive to the community through SERVICE.  It's serving both sides, theirs and ours.  Easier said than done, huh?  Practically... yes.  This objective as we can see signifies process.  A process which in return squeezes responsibility and commitment.  Why?  Simply because, to develop an acquaintance as an opportunity for service is an over
simplified statement.  Development literally is as vague and broad as it meant to be, isn't it?  To put it into action is yet another 'let us see" situation.

Anyway, we are not here to dissect every letter of the word "development" nor reprove every word of the objective mentioned.  The message is clearly conveyed- focus on the essence of its meaning through realistic application.  That, on my viewpoint, is achievable, if and only if, we ROTARIANS would be responsible enough to apply it to our everyday living.  Are we on the same boat?  Well, I reputed nobody would oppose an obvious fact.  Adherence to
commitment and dedication to this call produces accomplishment of this particular ROTARY
objective.  Let us not be mislead by our own vested interest. Look not to what the people can give us, but what can we give them.  Sound idealistic?  I don't think so.  I don't think we are here to be famous and praised for our over-excited efforts, for our term of office to look good and perfectly well administered.  A sincere pat on somebody's back as a gesture of
appreciation is more palatable. That's very basic.  SERVICE ABOVE SELF reminds us of a pious and more meaningful existence within this complex community.  Let's not forget it.  It helps us
develop an acquaintance.. more so a fellow ROTARIAN. Reflect on it.
